Grapefruit Seed Extract Is A Powerful Antimicrobial

Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) contains powerful polyphenols – limonoids and naringenin – that eradicate infections of all kinds. It is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that is non-toxic, and is said to be effective against 100s of viral and bacterial strains. GSE is well-known for it’s use in fungal infections, and is also used for parasite eradication. It is especially effective against the fungal infection, Candida. Fungus, or yeast, is a normal part of a healthy inner ecosystem, but becomes problematic when immunity is compromised, and from antibiotic overuse.

Fungal infections are estimated to affect up to 70 percent of the population. They are so prevalent that they are the predominant infection underlying most disease states. Fungus has the ability to change forms, making it particularly dangerous. In patients with compromised immunity, such as, those suffering from AIDS or cancer, it can be the actual cause of death.

Due to its strong anti-fungal properties, GSE, used in conjunction with a Candida diet, helps combat yeast infections. GSE is a powerful alternative to antibiotics. Bypass the side effects of prescription drugs by using this natural antimicrobial. It is even safe enough for babies to use.

GSE Is Great For Digestion

Digestive problems are rampant in today’s society. Low stomach acid is one likely cause of poor digestion. GSE acidifies the stomach, aiding in the digestion, and absorption of critical nutrients. The ability to knock out infections is likely another reason GSE improves digestion. Rarely, do those with compromised digestion correlate their symptoms with an infection.

When the infection is cleared, however, many symptoms decrease. This suggests that an infectious agent was the underlying cause of the distress. GSE has been shown to be effective against gram-positive and gram-negative strains of bacteria. It is suggested to take a high-quality probiotic if GSE is taken long term.

A Remedy For UTIs

GSE is not only effective for intestinal and topical fungal infections, but is also useful for urinary tract infections. As anyone can attest who suffers from this annoying condition, UTIs are painful, happen frequently, and are generally just a nuisance. If left untreated, they can lead to serious kidney infections.

Since UTIs tend to happen frequently, antibiotic resistance becomes an issue. Natural alternatives, like GSE, are useful for killing bacterial UTIs, and the fungal infections that so often accompany them. GSE has been found to eradicate organisms, such as, E. coli and staphylococcus saprophyticus – both thought to cause UTIs. Unlike antibiotics, GSE does not kill good bacteria.

  1. Grapefruit seed extract?  I don’t think I’ve ever heard about this before reading your article.  I am going to seriously consider investigating this as part of my ‘diet”, especially to assist me in my digestive issues.  Do you have any idea if it interferes with any antibiotics or medications as often you are warned against eating grapefruit?

    • Hello,

You’re not alone, many people haven’t heard of grapefruit seed extract. Do look into it further if you have digestive issues. It’s good for Candida and other fungal-related issues, which are implicated in digestive disturbances.

I would discuss any potential issue with medications and GSE with your doctor to be safe. Thanks so much for reading!

  2. Seed extracts, in general, have become more and more popular for boosting peoples’ health as the years go bu. Yesterday, I was talking with my sister about how she has been using an avocado seed extract as a way to boost her immune system as well as deal with a pollen allergy she has.

I’ll definitely forward this article to her, and I am sure that she will give this grapefruit extract a try, as well. Thanks a lot for the info!

    • Hi Harry,

Yes, seeds are becoming increasingly popular to use. Flax, chia, and sunflower seeds come to mind. I haven’t heard of avocado seed extract. I’ll definitely be learning more about it and its benefits on the immune system. I know pollen allergies can be miserable.

Thanks for forwarding my article. I appreciate your comment!

  3. Hi!

Great article! I had no idea what Candida was and never heard of it, so I am happy that I learned about it today. But I have to admit that was not the only thing I learned today. It seems like grapefruit seed extract has a lot of benefits, I guess I will have to start taking it. Is there a suggested number of times someone should take GSE?

However, as I did not know much about this topic, I looked up some other articles, and some suggest that there are some risks and dangers of GSE. Do you think so? Or that some of the claims about its benefits are a bit exaggerated. I think more research is needed to make these kind of affirmations.

    Best,

    Mariana

    • Hi Mariana,

Grapefruit seed extract is good for fungal infections and can be rotated with other anti-fungals. I would take it between meals at least a couple of times per day to knock out an infection.

Talk to your doctor – hopefully he’s at least a little holistically minded – about taking GSE if you’re on prescription medication.

      Thanks for reading my article!
