Hydrogen Peroxide Bath Therapy [Healing For Body & Soul]

Soaking in a tub with relaxing music and essentials oils is amazing for reducing stress hormones, for realigning perspective, and for rejuvenating both mentally and emotionally. However, you may as well bring out the big guns while you’re at it, and detoxify physically too. You can do this by turning your bathroom into a therapeutic spa. Enter hydrogen peroxide bath therapy.

Hydrogen peroxide will transform bath time into a truly holistic experience…

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound made of hydrogen and oxygen. It’s abbreviated H202. Most of us are familiar with the garden variety hydrogen peroxide (HP) you can buy at the local drugstore, which is a 3% concentration.

Food grade HP, in concentrations of 12% and 35%, is much much stronger and isn’t as readily available. It’s referred to as food grade because it doesn’t contain any stabilizers. You’ll need to buy it at a health food store or on Amazon.

Benefits of Hydrogen Peroxide Bath Therapy

Here are some of the benefits of this therapeutic remedy:

  • Heals skin infections (HP is both antiviral and antibacterial)
  • Promotes deep sleep
  • Oxygenates the tissues
  • Destroys anaerobic microbes
  • Oxidizes toxins and metals
  • Detoxifies pesticides
  • Raises body temperature
  • Eradicates yeast infections
  • Softens skin
  • Soothes sore muscles and joints
  • Promotes a sense of well-being
  • Purifies the water (now you’re not soaking in a soup of chlorine and pathogenic organisms)

Dr Larry Wilson states that: “Peroxide even seems to be able to remove layers of trauma.” You can form your own opinion around that statement.

What you’ll need:

  • 1-2 cups of either 12% or 35% hydrogen peroxide
  • A measuring cup for accurate measuring (Use gloves or be really really careful to not get any on your skin)
  • Replace the cap immediately after dispensing to prevent spills
  • Fill the tub with very warm water. The water doesn’t need to be overly hot
  • Swish the HP around in the water with your hand to distribute evenly.
  • Soak for up to 45 minutes to an hour. You know you’ve added enough water, if when you lay down, your ears are completely submerged. Add more hot water when the water cools.
  • Hydrogen peroxide can make you sleepy so exercise caution while getting out of the tub
  • Do not rinse but gently pat yourself dry. HP will not dry out your skin.

A huge CAVEAT here: high-concentration hydrogen peroxide can burn your skin, and will burn through clothing. I’ve had this happen so handle with the utmost care. If some does get on your skin, splash with water. Feeling a slight tingle on your skin, while in the bath, is normal.

You know you’ve added too much if your skin starts to itch. Simply add more water if this happens. Start with a cup to see how your skin reacts. Only use the amount your skin will tolerate. Repeat a week, or possibly three times, but no more, and never more than one bath per day.

To prevent having to use more HP, you can leave the bath water in the tub for your next bath. The water will be clean because of the disinfecting properties of HP. Just add more water to warm it up, and a little more peroxide.
You can also just put your feet in the water for 20 minutes once or twice a day.

Now go do some serious soaking…
