3 Benefits of Turning Inward When Life is Tough

Here’s the thing about trials – they can teach us a lot about ourselves. Coming out of a long-term marriage, that turned extremely toxic the last 7 years, I took the time to turn inward and examine all areas of my life. Below are 3 benefits I found from turning inward when life is tough.

Some of the insights I gleaned from this self-examination include:

1 – I found out I’m a heck of a lot stronger than I thought I was, and that I can do hard things. Really hard and complicated things. Now that doesn’t mean I didn’t complain and fuss a fair amount in the process. I did…

2 – I learned that some of the things I was doing, that I thought were meaningful, really weren’t, and that my time was better served on other pursuits. Intense suffering heightened my ability to perceive and discern the validity of what I was spending my time on.

3 – This re-evaluation of where I was spending my time resulted in a shifting of my priorities. This shifting sent me down new paths that I otherwise would not have considered.

For me, being in a difficult relationship whittled down the thousand idiosyncrasies, so inherent in a busy life, to a chosen few. Certain things just fell by the wayside, making room for better things.

All this to say how essential leveling-up with yourself is. I’m confident that the people that take time to do this have a competitive edge in all arenas of their lives.

As within, so without.

I know it has worked this way for me.
