Biblical declarations, also called biblical confessions or proclamations, are a powerful form of prayer.
What are biblical declarations? They are simply taking what God has said in the Bible and making a statement out of them in the first person.
This is how Bill Johnson, lead pastor at Bethel Church, explained the power in declaring the written word: The Word, which was spirit, became flesh. God became flesh and the words that came out of that flesh were spirit and life. We have those words in the Bible, and when we declare those words, they become spirit and life.
I heard Joyce Meyer say that God told her to choose 10 biblical declarations, and say them out loud every morning and every night. Pastor Robert Morris said that since God wrote the Bible, using 40 different secretaries, all scripture can be used to declare the promises of God for our lives.
The atmosphere changes when words are released and become spirit. It’s more than getting us to believe what we say, which is itself powerful. Not only do words work a meaningful work in us, they also change the atmosphere. God’s words bring life.
AND these worlds alert angels to do their job. Angels are standing in our midst, with their arms folded, waiting to be given an assignment. Declarations commission angels to act.
Declaring God’s word activates our faith and is an important element of mind-renewal. The battleground for every Christian is in the mind. Saying the word aloud shifts our problem-oriented thinking to more of a solution-based way of thinking because it reminds us of God’s promises.
How To Create A Biblical Declaration From Scripture
Here are a few examples of how to take a verse of scripture and make it personal to you. Notice how I’ve changed the pronouns:
Scripture: “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Personal declaration: “God is working all things for my good because I love him and am called according to his purpose.”
Scripture: “But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.” Proverbs 6:31
Personal declaration: “God will restore to me sevenfold what the devil has taken.”
Scripture: “Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you.” Exodus 23:25
Personal declaration: “I will worship the Lord my God, and his blessing will be on my food and water. He will take away sickness from among me.”
Scripture: “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 30:17
Personal declaration: “God will restore me to health and heal my wounds.”
Scripture: “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
Personal declaration: “By his wounds I am healed.”
Scripture: “He took our weaknesses and carried our diseased.” Matthew 8:17
Personal declaration: “He took my weaknesses and carried my diseases.”
Scripture: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
Personal declaration: “He was wounded for my transgressions and bruised for my iniquities. By his stripes, I am healed.”
Declarations can be used prescriptively as medicine. For instance, if you are declaring the word for your physical healing, say the last three scriptures above three times a day. This is called dosing the word.
5 Reasons We Say Biblical Declarations
- When we declare God’s word, making it personal to our lives, we are partnering with him to bring heaven to earth. We do this by declaring His realities. God spoke the world into being using words. When we say what He said, our words have the same power.
- Satan attacks us in our minds. This is the battleground. Declaring the word help to transform our minds, and overcome the lies of the enemy. We declare the word, or the truth, to not only counteract the devil’s lies, but declaring the word with our mouths, activates belief in our hearts. The is what is meant by mental consent.
- Declaring the word is a powerful form of prayer that shifts the negative thoughts and worry that incessantly occupy our minds, to positivity and hope that is solution-oriented.
- Proclaiming the word out loud commissions angels to act on our behalf.
- Biblical declarations activate our faith, which helps us to arise above our present day reality. It is written, we walk by faith, not by sight. When we declare God’s word, we are putting our faith in His promises, rather than the struggles we are currently facing.
Here’s one of my favorite declarations, taken from Jeremiah 29:11, to get your started: “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Change the pronouns to proclaim: “God’s plan is to prosper me and to give me a hope and a future.”
